This is a brand new option for the intrepid traveler/angler. This project option has been supported by Travel Manitoba and its program TIRF (Travel Innovation and Recovery Fund).
We are offering guests an opportunity to camp and fish on Lake Winnipeg. This option involves a balance between winter camping and walleye fishing. This season occurs between our first day ice fishing (usually around the third week in December) and the end of the fishing season – usually corresponding with March 31st.
Depending upon your level of comfort and interest in camping or fishing, we will tailor this experience to meet your expectations. If you’d like to fish (run ‘n gun) and camp as we do normally on Lake Winnipeg you have that option available to you. If you would like to camp and do some fishing as a part of your experience we can do that as well. Of course both options will have different outcomes for the guest.
Option A:
Here you are securing a place to stay overnight as a point of departure for two eight hour days of fishing. You are a hardcore angler. You’ve probably Winter camped before and may even have some gear you’d like to bring along. We do, however, supply everything you’ll need to spend a night on BIG WINDY. We will provide two fish based meals as a part of this experience. Two days fishing (16 hours) and one night for two people $1,450.00 cad. Option B:
This trip is directed at guests who want a nice balance between camping and fishing. We also see this option as more educational in nature. You very much will be a part of the camping experience on Lake Winnipeg. Start and finish times are bit more relaxed than option A and you won’t be “run ‘n gun” fishing for greenbacks. We will provide you with 3 meals and snacks as a part of this option. Two days of camping with fishing around camp on both days $1,150.00 cad. If you cancel at any time prior to your trip you will forfeit your deposit. Any other monies paid, including final full payment, will be refunded if cancellation is requested.
Certain situations may also be considered as legitimate for cancellation resulting in return of deposit - this is our call.
We reserve the option to cancel with full refund (including deposit if weather is too extreme - below -25 to -30c (depending on the comfort/and experience level of our guests) or if the guide is unable to provide service. If you are unable to make it because of travel difficulties we will rebook your adventure with your deposit.
If you have your heart set on fishing Lake Winnipeg, but your camping trip has been cancelled due to inclement weather or guide unavailability, we will refund/charge the difference for whatever number of days you’d like to just fish with us at our regular rates. We will help you book a room at one of our local hotels.
Offering some meals always presents some issues given dietary necessities or allergies to certain types of foods. If you have any such allergy it is necessary to advise your guide in advance so alternatives can be considered. Food prepared will be fish based with peanut based products present.
Being a retired high school teacher, Dan has been trained in First Aid and CPR. Safety precautions such as carbon monoxide detectors and oxygen depletion-sensored heating will be standard.
Dan is also fully insured as an outfitter.
